Security cameras and accessories laying on building plan

It seems in this day and age everyone feels the need to secure their most prized assets and surroundings with some sort of advanced security system. At Montavue, we believe the same. That’s just the beginning when it comes to making sure you are planning for the best install possible. There are so many things that go into a proper professional  PoE security system installation.

One common mistake we see quite often at Montavue is camera installation overkill. Just because you can doesn’t always mean you should. I’m alluding to then number of cameras you plan to deploy for your system. Most of our camera models provide at least 100 degree field of view. That being said, one camera on each corner of a residential or commercial structure, when placed correctly, will more than suffice. Having too many cameras can make finding footage difficult if/ when an occurrence does happen. Also, the more cameras in use will inherently reduce your overall recording time on hard drives. So, less is almost always more. Unless you are living in a 17,000 square foot dwelling, most times an 8 or 16 channel NVR will be more than sufficient in holding enough cameras to cover all areas.

While we at Montavue stand behind our product and offer a 2 year standard warranty, not everything is covered. We can’t be liable for badly installed systems. Moisture damage is not covered under warranty thus making sure all chance of such is eliminated is critical! We recommend a few things to ensure a water tight install is achieved. Di-Electric Grease is one product that can save you thousands of dollars down the road when it comes to keeping water and moisture out. Just a dime sized dab placed on the female pins on the camera prior to connecting the RJ45 and ethernet cable keeps moisture at bay especially in high humidity climates.

While we’re on the subject of water damage, it’s important to note that it’s never good to mix electronics and water, ever! If you are planning on installing cameras on non porous, solid surfaces like stucco, concrete or metal, we recommend the use of a water proof junction box of sorts. We sell such boxes on our website that will match your cameras for a professional installed look. Here is a link to our selection for reference purposes.

Because keeping water out is priority number one, the use of junction boxes with fitted steel conduit in commercial applications is the best route. Installing our systems correctly will give your system many years of reliable surveillance  and deterrence. Lastly, solidify the install with plenty of electricians tape around any unused pigtails that may not be used that are attached to the camera and/or any other connections.

When installing cameras to the underside of your soffit should keep everything dry and junction boxes may not be needed, just make sure there is no chance of moisture. In this instance, wires are ran into the attic and should remain free of moisture.

When purchasing a system from Montavue, upon request, we will include 100ft of cat 5e cable per camera for your convenience. Our cables are of the highest quality and are perfect for most installs. If you are unsure about the correct methods to use, feel free to give us a call and our friendly tech support team will happily guide to a proper installation.
